Hello Kevin,
I am writing to inquire if you are taking on new clients for Personal Training services for a potential long-term client.
I was impressed with your website. Based on the information on your site and your qualifications, I am interested in meeting you, obtaining more information, and hearing your thoughts. I have relocated to Los Angeles from Washington, DC and seek to make a long-term commitment.
I am strongly considering training at Train West Hollywood. In case Train West Hollywood will not allow me to access their facility to conduct cardio on my days off from training with you, I would require joining a gym, and look forward to your for advice in that respect. I am seeking a training time slot that is early to late evenings.
I am in good physical condition. I am 6 feet tall and I presently weigh 210lbs. In anticipation of hitting my big 4-0, I recently conducted an extensive physical exam with my doctor and I was deemed to be in excellent overall health, with deficiencies in my hormone levels.
To provide you with a background on my fitness level, you should know that I was physically active in college between 1984 and 1988. I began working with my first Personal Trainer in 1996. I appreciated the professional guidance. At that time, my training consisted of emphasis on proper weightlifting form and that form is still one of my greatest assets. I also utilized the high intensity training (HIT) method. I stayed committed to fitness over the years but my trainers changed until I met the right Personal Trainer in 2000.
Between 1999 and early 2007, I trained with Wayne Williamson at Verve Health and Fitness (http://www.vervehealthandfitness.com/) I was loyal to the same trainer for 7 years (http://www.vervehealthandfitness.com/wayne.html). My goals changed over those years. Initially, I bulked up. After several years of hard work and lots of eating, I reached my goal of 225lbs. In the past year, my trainer set a new objective on my behalf which included core work and general fitness because I was about to hit 40. My trainer felt this was the healthiest way to go during this stage of my life. I was terrified of losing all the bulk that I had worked so hard to gain. I was afraid of turning 'skinny' or 'lean'. I gave it a try because I trusted my trainer. He held me accountable for my cardio-based workouts which immediately followed each 1 hour Personal Training session. This routine led me to a new weight of 210, despite my objections that I did not want to lose the weight and bulk. My diet changed and reflected lower calories and lower carbs. Somehow the muscle remained and I was very pleased with the results. Wayne was not only my trainer, but also my friend.
However, between 2006 and 2007, my work responsibilities completely took control over my life. 13-14 hours stressful workdays took precedence over training and my personal life. I have not trained since March 2007. My nutrition was also abandoned during this time. I left the company that I worked for after 12 years of employment in order to take back my life. I relocated to LA recently and have accepted a position in Los Angeles in the field of financial services.
In November 2007, although I was not training, I began experiencing pain in my upper right shoulder. The pain was not in any joint, but seemed to be in the vicinity of the scapula. There was no known reason for the pain. In December, I began to see a Chinese acupuncturist to treat the pain I attend these sessions once per week. The pain occurred when the range of motion caused me to extend my arm up in the air over my head, for instance, to reach for things, and to put on a sweatshirt. The pain was too much to endure and I was unable to sleep on my right shoulder. I could not even walk briskly because the stride of walking caused pain. The diagnosis was rotator cuff tendonitis and/or bursitis brought on by poor posture and by the repetitive motion of using a computer mouse 13-14 hours a day without breaks, as was required for my job. I also took control of my recovery by purchasing 1) a large rubber band; 2) an ultrasonic massager; and 3) a nighttime shoulder immobilizer.
On March 1, 2008, I began to build up my cardio fitness levels to prepare for work with a Personal Trainer. I use a cross-trainer daily for 60 minutes and burn 700 calories (per the display). The intensity is high and I am sweating a storm by the time I finish. The resistance is typically '10' or higher. Today, I am ready to resume post-recovery weight training but I can't do it without you. Someone with your expert knowledge of body mechanics is preferred because my shoulder still requires rehabilitation before I am normal. The reason for my assessment is due to the fact that I recently attempted to utilize a bicep curl machine. Using proper form, leaning forward, with my triceps flat against the machine's pad, and using no weight on the machine, I was unable to lift the machine's arm above a 90 degree angle without experiencing pain in the scapula area.
The Personal Training approach I am seeking includes the following:
1) To have a Personal Trainer create a program individually designed for my specific fitness needs in this order: 1) shoulder rehab, 2) muscle growth & development, 3) core strength training, and 4) balance and flexibility.
2) To balance all aspects of a healthy lifestyle for the mind, body & spirit;
3) To have fun; Many trainers do not provide this aspect with their training, but I insist my Personal Trainer not only be a friend, but also provide opportunities to meet his other clients in fun planned activities/events;
4) To keep me motivated, educated, safe, and focused on improvements;
In return for your friendship and professional guidance, I will be one of your most dedicated and loyal long-term clients.
I hope this information helps you to understand me, my goals, and my fitness level. Please let me know when might be a good time to speak with you. I will be in LA on Monday afternoon and early evening. I will not be in LA the rest of the week but will return late Sunday. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Many thanks.
Respectfully,
Michael Meer
P.S. Photo attached is when I reached my goal of 225lbs.
